Uniforms

This is just one of her choices for her uniforms for Pre-K. The other includes polo shirts with her choice of whatever bottoms, just khaki or navy blue. What do I personally think about uniforms? I guess I am more indifferent. The school gave a couple of reasons why it has the Pre-K students wear uniforms. I agree with one - it does make it easier in the morning. In fact, I just bought one of those organizers that has the days of the week on it with slots for clothes and shoes. No more fighting about wearing the same skirt or the same dress over and over again. Or wanting to wear stuff that doesn't match. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me, and I know it shouldn't be.

The school says it also encourages self-expression by having the students express themselves creatively through art, music, and academic achievement rather than through clothes. My point? They are only four, although I can see where they are coming from. I do think some of the outfits Ashley would pick out for herself are pretty creative though. It also states it boosts school spirit and builds unity. It was neat seeing all the kids in her class in the same clothes and Ashley has been pretty excited about this whole uniform wearing thing.

I didn't cry yesterday with her going to Pre-K, but on the way to work this morning it hit me. She actually has less than a year before she goes to kindergarten if she goes to the school she is slated to go to. Since it's year round, she could start school (depending on what track she gets) in July. Now that is scary.
Her sister needed in on the action.

She does look adorable, even though I don't understand the uniform thing. But it's only preschool, right? She'll get to express herself in clothing later on in life!

BTW - I tagged you for something!

I love uniforms! I remember well the grief I got from school mates for not wearing the "right" clothing. Uniforms make everyone equal. Now, I'm not loving the prices...

Mine started K yesterday. I can't believe it. Not sure how I feel about uniforms. I love seeing how my girls dress themselves (certainly not what I would pick!), but I can see how uniforms cut down on fights -- both with parents, and more importantly amongst kids.
At least that one is cute!

When we lived in Texas the kids had to wear uniforms and I loved how it made things easier. She's adorable!

She looks precious!! I'm a veteran uniform wearer all the way from the wee days of elementary school straight through high school. I thought it was great. Totally took the pressure off to impress your friends with your clothing.

KJ and Ashley are in the same grade, and I too am in kindergarten denial. Did we not just BIRTH these children??

So cute! I did the uniform thing for 12 years and actually prefer that my son would wear a uniform but since we're going the public school route he'll have to live without it :)

awwww-- she is so cute!

I see both sides of the uniform issue. but I do think the pre-k is a bit early to enforce uniforms.

I love the idea of uniforms. My hubby says no. I like how the school described it as the kids can express themselves creatively in arts, etc. Usually you just hear of the negative, like no one will feel bad about not having designer jeans.

She looks so sweet in her uniform but I'm in two minds at that young age. The school my youngest go to only introduced a uniform nine years ago and I hoped it would be pratical but instead it's a bit old fashioned, I think schools need to move with the times, our jumpers are woollen and scratchy a cosy fleece would be much better.

I like uniforms. It's because I'm lazy. Our jr high school let us wear whatever socks we wanted. That's how we expressed ourselves creatively. We had some funky socks!

Ashley looks gorgeous in her uniform! But, you knew that already.

Honestly, I wish that our school required uniforms. They will next year and I am very happy about that. It will definitely make for less arguing about clothes and matching and all that!

She looks so angelic in her uniform. A lot of the pre-schools in the Uk have a partial uniform by expecting the children to wear sweat shirt and polo shirts with the group logo on it (this includes staff as well).

Very cute uniform. I remember wearing them when I was in grade school.

The only thing I didn't like was the knee-high socks. YUCK!

I would love uniforms - especially today. It is my youngests first day of Pre-K and she has changed clothes three times. Uniforms rock!

She looks very cute in her uniform! And Audrey looks cute too!

The uniform thing to me is odd, not sure where I stand to be honest....

She looks so very cute! I've been lurking for some time now and I've been inspired to start blogging myself. I'd be honored if you checked me out and ignored my horribly unfinished thoughts. Your girls are awesomely cute.

I WISH my kids had to wear uniforms. It would make my life a lot easier.

They are adorable!

Looks like she still got her "flair" in with her socks! : ) I'm sure uniforms make mornings easier. Today Abby and I fought over her clothes - it's 89 and she wanted to wear long sleeves and jeans.

How absolutely cute and adorable! I too am indifferent on the uniform issue. I think there are + and - to it. Hard to believe your first born will be in school soon- K that is- since she is already in school for Pre K. Glad it is going well and I think I will have to steal your idea of the days of the week organizer! If I have Ashlyn pick out her clothes for the week over the weekend, then she will realize she can't wear that same darn skirt everyday b/c it can't go in every slot! Or at least that is my theory for now ;)

I'm in favour of uniforms, but that's just my opinion.

I did not cry for Caleb's first day ever of pre school on Tuesday. I started to tear up, but then some random parent interrupted my pity fest and I couldn't manage to get it back. Oh well. There'll be plenty more occassions for that to happen again.

I have to admit, the uniforms aren't half bad. She looks so cute in it! And I suppose it would be a zillion times easier...

My Wordless Wednesday is all about time flying and I think there isn't anytime that is more evident than beginning school. She looks too cute in her uniform. I am glad that it works for her. Mel

I wish WISH Haley would HAVE to wear a uniform next year. But the only way THAT is going to happen is if she goes to a city school and Momma REFUSES to let her. But I love the idea! And the girls? Are adorable.

I can not wait to have a little girl so she can have some shoes like that. I love Aster's Mary janes.

Oh, and YOUR TINY BABBBBBEEEEEEEEEE IS GOING TO SCHOOL. Next thing you know she'll be wanting to call boys and get her navel pierced.

She does look adorable in her uniform and I can see at her age being excited about wearing one. I don't know where I stand on the uniform thing it has its good points and bad. Right now where we live it is hard to find clothes so that would make it simpler wouldn't it? But I love to see what McKenzie can put together every morning for an 8 year old she has great fashion sense and she is always so cute. Joshua though can't keep his pants up and I don't know if uniforms would help that or not since he has no hips to keep them up!

She looks so cute in her uniform! I have mixed feelings about uniforms. I'm glad they allow khaki or blue pants if she wishes.

OMG she is so adorable!! I wore uniforms from K-6th grade...I actually in a way kinda liked it. You didn't have to compete to keep up with the other kids..cuz they were wearing the same damn clothes. And when I got up into 7th grade...I was all the more excited to wear new clothes..I had a new appreciation for school shopping!
