Doctors are good...

So my doctors appointment this morning? Totally rocked. Seriously. I wish I had done this the first week my back was hurting.

For the past two months, I have had pain getting up and out of chairs, putting Audrey in her crib, and sometimes even just walking around. But I will say this, I have a high threshold of pain. Yes, my back hurt, but it was honestly more annoying than painful. It was annoying to me that it hurt when I stood up. It was annoying that I had to walk slow sometimes because of my back pain.

After talking to the doctor and him evaluating me this morning, he told me I must be in much more pain than I was letting on. He says he has tons of people come in with the same problem as me and they are obviously hurting. Like I said, I was just basically annoyed at the pain.

And now I would say my back pain is about 60% gone. He wants to see me two more times next week, and I should be at least 80% better. Awesome.

I guess you want to know what exactly is wrong...some muscle that goes from my spine to my pelvic bone is strained (from years of playing catcher in softball, pregnancies, and a week of lifting the girls in and out of a stroller when we were in Disney) and affecting my back and other muscles. He had me lay on my back at one point and lift up my right leg. He wanted me to push back on him while he tried to push my leg to the table. I could have done that all day. My left leg? He almost immediately was able to push it to the table. I had no idea that the muscle in my back was affecting me that much.

Oh, and my hips are totally crooked, but I don't know one Mom out there who doesn't have crooked hips. I carry Audrey (and Ashley before her) exclusively on my right side. I just CANNOT carry her on my left (I am breeding true Republicans) so that's affecting my hips as well.

So, anyways, I am very happy I went this morning. And I am sure Ray will be happy to stop hearing me complain about my back. He just won't be happy if this isn't covered by insurance...

I have the same thing with my hips-- I can only carry Drama with my left arm and hip-- which is funny, because I am right handed. When I go to bed at night I purposefully go to sleep with my left hip kind of pulled up and my right one lowered to try to couter act the problem. I know it doesn't help, but it makes me think it does.

So glad that you are feeling that much better. You really must have a high pain threshold! I too carry my kids on the right hip! Just can't hold them up on the left side....doesn't work. Hoping your are feeling even better next week!

I have the same problem with my back and hip. I was 12 when my younger sister and brother were born. I was their second mother and carried them everywhere! I'm right-handed and I had perched them on my left hip. Now, 27 plus years later I have problems. When I sleep I tend to sleep on my stomach with my right side stretched out and my left somewhat curled up, left leg brought up to my stomach. Its what is more comfortable to me.

So glad that you are feeling better! I should probably go to the doctor myself, I've had some serious back pain for like 3 weeks now and I have no idea why.

I have a high pain tolerance too!

Glad you are getting sorted. I think women are tough and do put up with pain but we probably don't do ourselves any favours.

I feel for Ray....my chiropractic visits almost broke us - not covered by insurance until our large deductible is met....stinks.

I am glad you went to the doctor! And glad he was able to figure out the cause of the pain. I carry my kids on the right too. Wonder if my hips are crooked.

It sounds like it'll be totally worth it (even if it's not covered on insurance).

That reminds me, I absolutely MUST start carrying Caleb on my left hip....

I went back into my head and hip memories... and I swear my kids were ALWAYS on my left hip, and when I rocked them, their heads were always pointed to my left side.
