I am semi-pyschotic about the flu shot. I have always had one, although it was helpful that I worked for a health system and always got one for free. The one year Ray didn't get the shot, we ended up in the ER with him. Not fun. And with the kids in daycare/public school, I think it is very important to get the vaccine.
But now I don't work in health care, but I was lucky (or not really) to have my annual exam with my GYN today. She had just received the vaccine yesterday, so I was the first in her office to get one. Yippee! Of course the girls' pediatrician office doesn't have them yet, but as soon as they do, we will be first in line.
The other doctor visits Ray and I are struggling with is an ultrasound for Audrey. In July, she had a UTI and since she was younger than 4, her pediatrician said it is precaution to have this procedure done. I had issues with kidney infections and such when I was an infant, but I don't have any lasting effects from that.
The radiologist office called today to explain what they would do. She would be given a drug that wouldn't put her sleep but instead would help her forget the experience of having a catheter put in and her bladder filled. Ray is freaking out that she will be getting a mind altering drug; I am concerned about the whole catheter thing.
I have talked to a few people about this who have daughters who have gone through the same. As one Mom told me, I would rather have any defects ruled out now before she gets another awful UTI. Ray doesn't even want to go through it at all since she hasn't had another UTI since then.
I left a message with her doctor's office to talk about it...I just don't know.

Alyssa had this when she was about 3 months old. Not a big deal, don't worry about it. Call if you want specifics.
I've never had a flu shot and I can't remember the last time I had the flu. I refused to let my boys have them too, I've seen too many people get sick from the shot
I'm not sure what I'd do about the ultrasound. I think you really need to talk to her pedi and see the pros and cons on both sides of the issue
hope you find an answer that brings you some peace
wow... well, I hope you can find some peace. That sounds fairly worrysome.
Honestly, I would vote for waiting til the second UTI before having the test. However, if you have that test, you DEFINITELY need to give her the drug. It will be SO much better than doing it without.
that is the same drug used for my endoscopy.
(isn't that weird that putting a scope down your throat starts with end. You'd think that was for the other... ha ha)
When I had my colonoscopy the following summer I told them I didn't want that again.
I'm sure I was given some kind of anti anxiety drug as well -- but guess what? I don't remember (O:
Flu shot. Must call about it.
As for the ultrasoud, I don't know what I would do. Part of me would say to wait, but part of me would say why wait? Ugh. I'm NO help. Let us know what you guys decide.
that is a tough decision.
I've had the drug-- I will tell you that it works. very well.
Punter had his flu "shot" the other day at his visit. It's a new thing called FluMist and they spray it up the kid's nose. Much better than a shot!
I've NEVER had a flu shot?!?!?
My daughter had a UTI last winter, and the doctor told us about the whole ordeal that you have to go through. He told us it's very unpleasant for the kids, so he hates to send them for it. he's of the opinion that we would wait to see if she got another one, and then do it. He felt it was that "traumatic."
It's a hard call for you...do you rule out all bad things and put her through it, or do you chance it? Good luck in the decision...I'll be thinking of you!
We always do flu shots too, but it seems everyone is doing them so early this year! In the past our doctor's office hasn't gotten them in until October! And hubby and I actually get them at the pharmacy at our grocery store :)
