Tomorrow I fly from Raleigh to Austin, Texas for the marathon. I am leaving behind a husband coming down with a head cold, and a brother-in-law who lives with us with the flu (the rest of us smart people in the house had our flu shots, so I am hopeful we won't get it). That and Audrey said her legs hurt today and I am hoping it was just the P90X Ab Ripper stuff she was doing with me last night and not a repeat of transient synovitis she had EXACTLY A YEAR ago where we spent the night in the ER. Nothing like having a ton of stuff to worry about before flying away to go run a marathon.
And I still don't feel ready.
I have run 511 miles in this training cycle, run in cold, heat, snow, rain. I have run through illnesses and cramps and side stitches. I have run with friends, alone, on the treadmill. I ran one half marathon, 3 16-milers, 1 14-miler, 1 18-miler, and 2 20-milers and a ton of stuff in between. I have done tempo runs, mile repeats and easy slow paced long runs. I should be ready, my brain tells me I should be, but I just don't feel it.
My bib number is 5042. Don't make fun of me if I take a really long time to finish the marathon.

Just think in 48 hours time you will be a marathoner...a true bonafide superamazingoutofthisworld marathoner. No more time for doubts missy! You will do awesome! Feeling ready is for cookies and other bakery items! You are going to rock the pavement.
Thanks so much for the card! You're the best! I love having friends that share my passion.
Good Luck Amy! I know you can do it, and you'll do it well.
Can't wait to hear all about it.
Hi Amy,
I just saw your comment on Tall Mom's blog and I wanted to wish you good luck on your first marathon!
Just take it easy and enjoy the run! You will do great!
Have an incredible race!!!!
Hey - I just wanted to say congratulations marathoner! You did it and you are a ROCK STAR! (I stalked you, hope that's not too creepy).
Congratulations again!!! Soak in the moment that is your first marathon, there will NEVER be another "first marathon", it is truly something special.
DUDE ~ seriously? vomit on the course?!?! THAT is FREAKING AWESOME. No I'm serious, go back and read my Richmond '10 race report and you'll get why I'm jealous. Plenty of runners do that.
And what we talk about on my blog? NO ONE IS EVER going to criticize a first marathon finish time. You know why right? Because running a marathon is something that less than 1% of the population will ever do. Besides, you probably learned a little bit, right? There is no way to know everything going into your first, everyone makes rookie mistakes.
I'm proud of you. Be proud of yourself, even if it wasn't the race you imagined. Even if it was a galactically bad race on 100 levels, it was a MARATHON. Got that? A MARATHON!!!!
