Stop and Smell the Roses

One of my favorite bloggers left a comment on my "Busy" post that kind of hit my like a ton of bricks. She said I needed to stop and smell the roses. It made me stop and reevaluate my life. Am I really going through life all that quickly? Am I not noticing what’s really beautiful around me? Am I going to regret the choices I have made?

And then we had one of those wonderful Friday nights, were we take the kids to the pool and play and play and eat pizza and play and laugh and splash and giggle until the kids are so exhausted and cold their lips are blue and their teeth are chattering. It’s those evenings that I sit back and say this is what it’s like to smell the roses, this is what life is all about.

Yes, we lead crazy lives. Work, school, kids’ activities, friends, family - all that stuff rolls up into one pretty crazy and hectic life. But I truly feel I am making the most of it. I know what it takes to make my kids smile. I know Audrey loves raspberries on her belly. I know Ashley is really a sucker for ice cream. I know that the dishes can wait, the bills will get paid just as soon as the kids fall asleep. I may not smell the roses every minute of every day, but there are times in my day, everyday that I look at my family and smile. And it’s those times I smell the roses.

That's so beautiful. I feel exactly the same way. We are so lucky to have the life we do and be able to share it with our beautiful children. We are truly blessed. Lets not take a moment for granted.

And this post has made me think.. I go through the day with the goal of keeping the kids alive, hopefully broken bone and head free, with full bellys and a clean house for my hubby when he gets home... in all actuality, he could careless about the house.. I don't enjoy my days with my kids at home and that is sad.. thank you for this post... maybe today will be different.

We ALL need to stop the roses. Thank you for the reminder.

And yes, Rachel ROCKS doesn't she. She's one of my favorites too.

Good for you! It's a difficult thing to do sometimes, with small kids. They, and the house, and everything else, can keep us so occupied that it doesn't seem like there is time for stopping. But even if it's only five minutes in one day that we stop and smell the roses, it makes the whole day worth it, doesn't it?

Have a great day!

You are so right about this. It's sad that I have to remind myself of it so much...you would think being a mom and loving my kids would be reminder enough. But unfortunately it's not.

Thanks for the reminder!

"Stop and Smell the Roses" - that's one of my most favorite things to say, and I say it often. It's so easy to get caught up in 'life' that you don't take time to slow down, and yes you are right, that is what is most important!

This was a nice reminder, Thank You.

I agree with needing to stop and smell the roses. I need to do it more often myself. I know I do things with the kids but we are always doing very busy things. I need to stop and just do some lazing about with them

I didn't realize that that little comment affected you that way. I really just meant to relax every once in awhile and do things like your Friday night. I have to learn to take my own advice sometimes too.

I think you're doing fine and making wonderful choices and you're a great mommy and wife! This was a really great post. I think maybe we will go to the park today and not worry about making sure the dishes are done and the girls are in bed on time.
