Fun Monday - Post Number 300

Here is this week's Fun Monday Challenge by Prairie Air:

The topic for this Fun Monday is summer memories. Besides a few of your favorite summer memories, I'd like to hear what summer means to you. Is summer all about fireworks, watermelon seed wars, catching fireflies, days at the lake, family vacations, or the perfect swimsuit? What sights, smells, sounds, tastes, feelings do you associate with summer?

My Childhood:

Summer as a kid meant playing all day at my Grandmother's house. When I was young, my Grandparents lived up the same dirt road as we did. My days were spent eating cheese and bologna sandwiches, playing the sandbox, and helping my Grandmother with her chores. One chore in particular I remember was hanging the clothes out on the line to dry. Every time I see clothes on a line outside now (which is not that frequent), I am reminded of those days back in Virginia growing up.

Summer Now:

Summer now is weekends at Myrtle Beach; evenings at the pool; letting the kids stay up a little later so they can play just a little longer outside with their friends. I love it when I pick up Ashley at school and her face is flushed from running around outside. Summer means farmer's markets; strawberry picking; outdoor concerts.

And to top off a Great Monday, this is my 300th post...so, a little prize for the people who are commentors number 3 and 30 (if it makes it to that!). Just make sure I have your email address so I can email you for your address...

I love reading your summer memories, I still hang my washing out to dry!

I know I'm not 3 or 30, but had to comment because nothing says summer like cheese and bologna sandwiches and laundry all crunchy from the summer sun.
Thanks for taking me back in time!

Great memories! I love when I pick Bug up from school and she's all flushed and dirty from playing hard too! Everyone thinks I'm crazy for liking it so much but at least I know she's having a good time!

You think I won't post 17 more times?

Hee hee. Have fun down in Myrtle Beach. I'm so incredibly jealous. But at least y'all will be blogging? Right? Right?

Wow - happy 300!!!

I've never been to Myrtle Beach - it looks awesome. I have been to Hilton Head though and that's nice (but expensive.) Then again, since I live in FL, we tend to go away from the beach for our vacations!

Congrats on 300 posts! And I thought that 200 was a lot....

Your picture made me think of fireflies and how you always knew it was summer in Virginia because those things were everywhere! I loved catching them. And I might have even plucked the glowing part off the bodies at times and applied it to my skin as war paint...

Maybe, just maybe.

I love summer time, it's great.

Omg I forgot fireflies until I saw your photo! I've edited because, well, fireflies were just too big a part of my childhood...happy memories.

I too remember hanging laundry out with my grandmother. I always loved helping her with her chores. Everything always smelled so good - especially the laundry;).

I almost didn't comment seeing as I am only number 21 and I didn't want to waste my brilliant comment when I had no chance of winning anything.

Ah, screw it...nice pics. I still hang my clothes on a line outside, which has been a real bitch lately because apart from being winter, it's rained for the past 5 weeks! And no, I don't have a dryer.

Hahaha! Lucky I screwed up the WV as I forgot to congratulate you on 300 posts!

Happy 300th post!

I loved your memories! Mine are so similar, just in Illinois:)

My mother hung clothes out on the line also and I loved the smell of them when they were brought in. I tried this also when I became a young mother, but it was much more time consuming than the dryer. Eventually I left it for convenience. Now it seems you just don't see much of that anymore.

Happy 300! Hey, you don't look that old!

Because you do not allow anonymous comments my link will send you to my old blogger address. Sorry.

Congratulations on your 300th post! That's so neat that you grew up so close to your grandparents. We lived next door to my in-laws and down the street from Danny's grandparents for 11 years. The kids are very close to their grandparents and great grandparents.

I pictured sand all over your bologna

I loved the smell of the sheets when I helped mom remove them from the outdoor clothes lines.

Sometimes I laid in the grass beneath them when the breeze was blowing, just to watch them billow

I never saw a firefly until after I became a grandmother -- and my 1 year old grandson put it in his mouth and I could see it glowing between his little teeny teeth.

I used to go over to my grandparents house during the summer and my brother and I would catch lightening bugs in those old canning jars! I still catch them sometimes.

Congrats on 300!
