I don't do well in emergency type situations. I freak out, start shaking and more importantly, freeze.
Like when Audrey climbed out of her crib over a year ago and broke her arm. We heard the bang and the scream, yet it wasn't me who ran up the stairs, it was Ray.
And yesterday, Audrey insisted she bring her blanket down to eat dinner with. She was demanding she was cold. She has been pretty good at navigating the stairs, but not so good with navigating them with a blanket in her hand. The stairs have a door at the bottom which we keep closed in order to keep the dog from going upstairs. At some point in her descent, Audrey fell down the stairs and started screaming.
I? Did nothing but look helplessly at Ray (we were both standing right in the kitchen next to the stairs). He ran and opened the door and picked her up. She was fine, she said her nose hurt, but there was no blood. I think she only fell off the bottom step.
And honestly, maybe I just do this when Ray is around. Ashley has fallen down those same stairs when we first moved in when Ray was not home. I recall not reacting like I did with Audrey, but running down the stairs even with the sight of blood pouring out of her nose.
Or maybe I just do it with Audrey. I don't know, but I just don't know how to not do it.

You are not alone. I'm the same exact way. When my hubby is around and one of the kids get hurt I just freeze and he is the one that runs to check up on them. However, when I'm alone with them I do just fine. My son when he was almost 1 year old fall down 17 steps and broke his leg and I got to him and hysterically called my husband and 911. I know with me is that I just want to avoid as much as possible how bad it is going to be (ex. the injury, fall, etc) b/c I feel like it affects me more personally than my husband. Like I blamed myself when my son fell down. Anyways, just want to let you know that you're not alone;-) I'm glad that she is fine:-)
I do the exact same thing. It scares the crap out of me, but I want him to get there first while I kinda stop un'freaking out...
Is it wrong that I am laughing at you? Gosh, I hope not, cause then that's gonna make me a bad person. I am laughing my buttocks off.
glad she is ok. I react differently when my husband is home too
I'm glad she's okay!
And typically in my house, Keven is the one that goes limp when something like that happens while I'm quick to the rescue!
My heart always skips a beat when one of the kids gets hurt. With us though, it is usually me sprining to action since I have more first aid training. Though my hubby does the vomit clean up better than me - when pregnant with each subsequent child, I could not clean up without getting sick myself - so now he has that job!
Hope the tumbler is feeling better.
I tend to do the same thing. I'm scared to death of what I'll find at the other end of that screaming, so if hubby's there, I let him take off running and follow behind. But if I'm there by myself, I definitely run to find out what's wrong. Hubby just does so much better in emergencies!
I typically freeze momentarily, I think all the what ifs run through the mind then we react, terrified we'll find the worst possible scenario.
when push comes to shove (pun not intended) you would jump in and help. if by yourself you would spring into action!
A friend of mine and I were just talking about this the other day-- it is so crazy to freeze like that.
